NIGHT CAP: Sleep Anxiety
Posted@12:33AM

Are you ever kept up by the fear that something terrible might happen while you’re asleep? I often lie for hours drenched in a cold sweat, struck by the illogical fear that a giant nocturnal earthquake might hit while I’m passed out and kill me. The idea that I could die in my sleep without even knowing it is utterly terrifying to me. I would rather be dragged to death behind wild horses than die obliviously in a nocturnal earthquake. At least you could say goodbye to your family, since it takes a while to round up those wild horses. That’s why I’ve devised a simple alarm system that will alert me of a nocturnal earthquake, just to put my mind at ease: I’ve put my bed under a roof, which will fall on top of me if an earthquake hits and wake me up.

If you die before you wake, pray the Lord your soul to take. Bingo-bango, foolproof earthquake insurance.
