Nudists or not?
I am one of the editors of my college’s student newspaper. Here is an ad someone paid $20 to display to the student body for a week:
So it says “Nudist Club.” Winter family nude swim. Sounds harmless, if unappealing. But is this really a nudist collective, or a SCAM? I am suspicious for a few reasons:
- Why is “nude swim” capitalized, bolded and in a GIANT font? Also, it seems that there are two spaces between the words “nude” and “swim.” They must be very excited for this nude swim “with racquet and volleyball.” But being nudists, should this be such a big deal? For them, it’s really just some old swim.
- Many people–both nudist and non–have tried swimming naked; it’s played out. But nude bowling? As one who has never been naked once, let me say: This sounds great. I would imagine that after experiencing nude bowling you could never truly bowl clothed again. It would just be going through the motions. So it’s odd that the nude swim was the centerpiece of this ad while naked bowling, which seems a much bigger draw to the non-nudist crowd, is but a footnote.
- What do you need a raquet for if you’re swimming naked? HUH?
One aspect of the advertisement does seem in line with the nudist club story, though: It’s written with the scattered grammar and strange aesthetic sensibilities of the constantly high. So, who knows. I plan to browse the website and report back.

I say we show up to this thing and then just do “the twist” for half an hour, so that our junk is smacking our legs. See if they think nudity is beautiful after that!

Actually, I think that’s kind of the point of nudism.
